Helping Boys Apply What They Learn

RSA experiences reinforce the school programme; they are not separate programmes. RSA normally offers one age-appropriate experience after Term 1 and another after Term 2, helping boys apply learning through challenge, teamwork, contribution and reflection.

Experience 1 reinforces Identity and Responsibility. Experience 2 reinforces Relationships and Leadership.

Foundations and Transition may share a venue or selected social activities, while developmental tasks and reflection remain age-appropriate.

What Boys Experience

Experiences help boys apply what they learn through challenge, teamwork, contribution and reflection.

Challenge

Age-appropriate activities give boys opportunities to try new tasks and practise what they are learning.

Teamwork

Boys work together and practise trust, communication and cooperation.

Contribution

Boys practise responsibility through useful contribution and shared tasks.

Reflection

Guided reflection helps boys connect the experience to their learning and everyday choices.

How Experiences Connect to School Learning

Each experience reinforces selected learning from the school programme. Experiences are not standalone programmes.

Experience 1

Reinforces Identity and Responsibility.

Experience 2

Reinforces Relationships and Leadership.

RSA Foundations

Developmental tasks and reflection are suited to boys aged 13–15.

RSA Transition

Developmental tasks and reflection are suited to boys aged 16–18.

Safety and Care

Experiential activities use the same RSA safeguarding standard as the school programme, with additional planning for the setting and activities.

Consent and Assent

Parent/caregiver consent and participant assent are required, with clear information about the planned experience.

Professional Mentors and Supervision

Screened adults and Professional Mentors work within clear safeguarding responsibilities and supervision arrangements.

Venue and Activity Planning

Planning covers venue safety, activity risks, supervision, medical readiness and participant wellbeing.

Transport and Safe Handover

Where relevant, planning covers transport, accommodation, medical arrangements and safe participant handover.

Experiences Reinforce the Programme

Residential attendance is not required for programme completion. Where financial capacity, disability, health, family preference, faith or schedule prevents attendance, RSA provides an approved alternative way for the boy to apply the learning.
